Jürgen Neukirch
1. Biography Jürgen Neukirch (Source: Oberwolfach Photo Collection) Jürgen Neukirch was born on 24 July, 1937 in Dortmund, Germany. He obtained a PhD in mathematics at the University of Bonn in 1964 under the supervision of Wolfgang Krull and Ernst Ferdinand Peschl. After that, he worked at various institutions, such as Queen's University (Canada), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (the US) before becoming a professor at the University of Regensburg (Germany) in 1971. His main research area is algebraic number theory . He died on 5 February, 1997. 2.
